The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Polychrome: A Timeless Classic Reimagined

Jun 04, 2023

The Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has established itself as an innovative watch manufacturer and—perhaps more importantly—a disruptive presence in fine watchmaking throughout its 160-year history. Recently, the brand rolled out one of its latest technical disruptions in the form of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Polychrome, a limited to only 150 pieces of multi-colored innovative dial design that seamlessly blends innovation and creativity.

Design-wise, the new timepiece is intriguingly based on the celebrated TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Nanograph. Most notably, the 45mm watch uses its strap design, bezel, and signature case.

Setting the stage is the all-black case in ultra-lightweight and resistant fine-brushed black PVD grade 5 titanium with a fixed carbon tachymeter bezel. Then comes a black PVD grade 5 titanium screwed sapphire case back with unique engraving, which adds a nice element, including marking the limited release and XXX/150 number of the piece. The deep black exterior continues with matte black alligator leather with a rubber lining.

However, another element of contrast that stole the spotlight lies upfront as the watch introduces a resolutely novel rainbow-colored skeletonized dial. It also features a black flange with a 60-second/minute scale, rhodium-plated blue chronograph sub-counters at 3 and 9 o’clock with black-gold-plated polished hands, and the multicolored tourbillon at 6 o’clock, all in a classic TAG Heuer Carrera elegant and balanced tri-compax arrangement.

What's more, to achieve the smooth and opulent brilliant color gradient spanning the dial, TAG Heuer collaborated closely with Positive Coating—the only supplier in the world to provide this ground-breaking finish—an expert partner specializing in vacuum deposition PVD treatments. As we can see upfront, the final progressive color range is produced by the regulated and minute fluctuations in thickness (a few nanometers) of metallic oxides, which are formed in infinitely thin transparent layers.

Of course, what's ticking beneath these visual elements is no less impressive. The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Polychrome is powered by the Calibre Heuer 02T COSC chronograph tourbillon. Developed in-house to meet the highest standards of precision and performance, this COSC-certified movement offers a power reserve of 65 hours.

In the end, TAG Heuer has repeatedly lived up to the Techniques d’Avant Garde part of its name. The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Polychrome, however, radiates personality and flair along with the most cutting-edge watchmaking know-how.

Finally, as a limited edition watch that combines the precision of a chronograph with the intricate mechanics of a tourbillon movement, not only this stunning watch is a testament to TAG Heuer's commitment to craftsmanship and innovation, but it also marks a significant step in redefining the technological and creative limits of traditional luxury watchmaking.
