The historic Louisville Water Tower has been under renovation for just over a year. Officials said on Tuesday that it's nearing completion in the coming months.

"We are about 75% through with the project at this point," said Channa Newman, manager of education and outreach at the Louisville Water Company. "We have a very hopeful feeling that we're going to be able to be done completely by late fall of this year."

A full facelift was done to the historic Louisville landmark and the museum. The renovations include replacing metal and wood inside of the tower, a brand new ventilation system, and a paint job.

The renovation project cost Louisville Water $7 million.

Built in 1860, the Water Tower is the oldest ornamental water tower in the country. Newman said that's why the project is so important to both the company and the city of Louisville.

"We want to continue to use this space as our story. Being able to tell the story of Louisville Water; the innovation, the treatment, the quality of water, it's really important," Newman said.
