Three portable flood lights have been in use in Hanson in order to disrupt an ongoing display of the Trump 2024 campaign logo from a projector on a water tower in the town since Friday night.

The town select board met Tuesday night with its lawyers to decide next legal steps. The town administrator told Newscenter 5 she will update residents Wednesday morning, but earlier released a statement re-affirming:

"While we respect everyone's right to free speech and political points of view… the Town of Hanson does not endorse candidates for any office from any political party, nor does the Town allow political signs to be displayed on municipal property."

The projection first appeared Friday night and officials have warned if it continues it could cost a lot of taxpayer dollars through attorney fees overtime pay to the highway department and borrowed extra lighting from neighboring towns.

The homeowner who appears to be projecting the controversial image did not answer when Newscenter 5 attempted to speak with them on Tuesday, but that resident now owes $400 in fines — $100 for everyday he violates the cease and desist order town leaders issued him on Saturday.
